Summary
This Act of Parliament
‘Northern
Ireland (St Andrews Agreement) Act 2007’ modifies the ‘Northern Ireland
(St Andrews Agreement) Act 2006’.
The 2006 Act gave
legislative effect to the St Andrews Agreement, which was reached on 13th
October 2006 following negotiations between the British and Irish Governments
and the Northern Ireland political parties.
In particular, the 2006 Act
contained provisions to create a 'Transitional Assembly' which made
arrangements to facilitate the restoration of devolved government within
Northern Ireland, with new Assembly elections to take place on 7th March 2007.
The 2007 Act specifies dates in May 2007, rather than March 2007, for
stages in the restoration of devolved government within Northern Ireland.
