Summary
The Davidson Review focuses on the implementation of
European legislation in the UK. It was commissioned as part of the Government's
commitment to reduce unnecessary regulatory burdens on the private, public and
voluntary sectors.
While the Review finds that costs of
implementing European legislation can result in adverse consequences for UK
competitiveness, over-implementation is not as big a problem as sometimes
claimed. It identifies cases of over-implementation, including MOT tests,
insurance mediation, consumer sales, fisheries regulation, waste and other
regulatory regimes.

How does it affect me?
If you work in
areas of the private, public and voluntary sectors where EU legislation
regularly impacts on the way that you do business, this affects you.
Reducing the burdens of over-zealous enforcement or unclear EU regulations
or guidance could bring significant benefits to business (estimated at around
£240 million) and the wider public (around £430 million).
The Review
makes a number of best practice recommendations designed to achieve robust
implementation of EU legislation in the least burdensome way possible while
maintaining necessary regulatory protections.
