How does it affect me?

If you work in the nuclear industry or are interested in the management of radioactive waste, this affects you.

The Government has accepted CoRWM's recommendation that geological disposal is the best available long-term approach but has watered down the proposal for an independent body to oversee the programme: the Committee has concerns about this and thinks that an independent body would be desirable.

The Committee also expresses concern that the progress in radioactive waste management has been characterised by years of procrastination followed by unseemly haste, and calls on the Government to delay the forthcoming consultation document until the new CoRWM has been appointed and has had time to consider the proposals.
