Summary
This publication, 'Youth Alcohol Action Plan' (Cm. 7387), from the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), the Home Office and the Department of Health sets out the Government's aim of addressing the problem of teenage drinking.
The Action Plan aims to address the problem in three ways:
- By working with the police and courts to stop people under 18 from drinking in public places.
- By developing clearer information and guidance on the effects of alcohol consumption for parents and young people and dealing with irresponsible parents accordingly.
- By working with the drinks industry to strengthen standards that govern the sale of alcohol to young people and the way that drinks are marketed and promoted.
This publication sets out Government's conclusions and the action that will be taken and was part of the Government's commitment as set out in 'The Children's Plan - Building Brighter Futures' (Cm. 7280).
Included with the Action Plan is a 'Call for Views' response form, with replies required by 7 July 2008.
