Government plans immigration and citizenship reform

Summary

The 'Draft (Partial) Immigration and Citizenship Bill' (Cm. 7373), from the UK Border Agency (Home Office), is a Bill is to make provision about immigration and to replace the Immigration Acts, and to make provision about the requirements to be met for the acquisition of British citizenship by naturalisation.

The draft Bill is divided into 13 parts:

  • Part 1 - Regulation of Entry into and Stay in the UK
  • Part 2 - Powers to Examine, etc
  • Part 3 - Citizenship
  • Part 4 - Expulsion Orders & Removal etc. from the UK
  • Part 5 - Powers to Detain & Immigration Bail
  • Part 6 - Detained Persons and Removal Centres
  • Part 7 - Offences
  • Part 8 - Carriers' Liability
  • Part 9 - Illegal Workers
  • Part 10 - Appeals
  • Part 11 - General Supplementary Provisions
  • Part 12 - Definitions for the Purposes of the Act
  • Part 13 - Final Provisions.

The Bill has been published in draft to allow Parliament and public to provide their views on the plans before the final Bill is introduced.
