Chief Inspector of Prisons' Annual Report

After a year in which prisons held a record number of prisoners, the prison system remains under pressure and important lessons must be learnt if prisons are to be safe and effective. Relationship between Police and the media examined

Interaction between police forces and journalists has become more frequent and professional in recent years and the relationship can be mutually beneficial. The Home Affairs Committee felt the less-positive aspects of the relationship, however, warranted investigation.

This Report, 'Police and the Media' (HC 75), looks in particular at the practice of holding off-the-record briefings during on-going police operations, instances where police have failed to release information to the media, and attempts by the police to control media reporting.

In this Report examining the impact of the 2006 'Leitch Review of Skills: Prosperity for All in the Global Economy - World Class Skills - Final Report', the Innovation, Universities, Science and Skills Committee states that the Government must place re-skilling at the heart of its skills policy in order to meet the challenges of recession and redundancies.

This Report, 'Intoxication and Criminal Liability' (Cm. 7526), addresses the issue of intoxication from alcohol or other drugs and its bearing on the criminal liability, if any, of a person charged with an offence, whether it is alleged that the defendent committed the offence or that he/she took a secondary role in the commission by assisting or encouraging a perpetrator.

Lord Darzi's NHS Report examined

This Report from the Health Committee, 'NHS Next Stage Review' (HC 53-I), examines Lord Darzi's final report of the NHS Next Stage Review (NSR), 'High Quality Care for All' (Cm. 7432).

Government spending on education examined

In its annual examination of the Department for Children, Schools and Families' (DCSF) spending, 'Public Expenditure' (HC 46), the Children, Schools and Families Committee predicts that future funding will be much tighter than at present and that the rate of spending growth will be minimal come the next Spending Review.
