Summary

Although initially sparked by the collapse of MG Rover, this Inquiry was broadened to cover wider issues concerning the UK automotive industry.

This Report ‘Success and Failure in the UK Car Manufacturing Industry’ (HC 399) examines the following subjects:

  • Principal reasons for the different records of success by different companies
  • How companies arrive at investment and closure decisions
  • Role of the trade unions
  • Government responses to closure announcements
  • What the Government could do to help the supply chain and workforce if plants are closed.
